How to convert YouTube to MP4 in 1080p on Fistty

Fistty’s YouTube page handles both MP4 video and MP3 audio. For full HD video, follow these steps.

  1. Copy the YouTube link. In the YouTube app, tap Share below the video title, then Copy link. On a computer, copy the address from the browser bar.
  2. Open Fistty. Visit Fistty’s YouTube downloader in Chrome, Safari, Edge or any other browser.
  3. Paste and tap Download. Tap the box, paste the link and tap Download. Fistty reads the video and lists the available formats.
  4. Choose 1080p MP4. The list shows MP4 at several resolutions, such as 360p, 720p and 1080p, plus an MP3 option. Tap 1080p. If the video was uploaded in a lower resolution, 1080p will not appear; pick the highest one shown.
  5. Wait for the download. A 1080p file is larger, so it takes longer on mobile data. On Wi-Fi, a 10-minute video usually finishes in under a minute.
  6. Find the file. On Android, the MP4 lands in Downloads and shows in Gallery. On iPhone, Safari saves it to Files under Downloads; tap Share and Save Video to add it to Photos. On a computer, check the Downloads folder.

No login is needed at any point. Fistty never asks for your Google password. The same steps work for a two-minute clip or a two-hour documentary; only the download time changes.

Why MP4 is the right format

MP4 is the most widely supported video container in the world. It plays on:

  • iPhone and iPad without any extra app
  • Every Android phone, including Infinix, Tecno, itel, Samsung and Xiaomi
  • Windows, Mac and Linux with the built-in player
  • Smart TVs, USB sticks plugged into a TV, and car screens
  • WhatsApp, Telegram and most social apps for sharing

YouTube itself streams in formats such as WebM and DASH segments that are split into separate video and audio streams. A good converter joins these into a single MP4 with the sound included. That is what Fistty does, so you never end up with a silent video or an audio file without a picture.

MP4 files also keep their quality when you share them. Sending the file through Telegram as a document or copying it over USB does not re-compress it, unlike WhatsApp, which shrinks every video it sends.

1080p vs 720p vs 4K: which resolution should you pick?

Higher resolution is not always better. It depends on where you will watch the video and how much data you can spend.

Resolution Best screen Approx. size per 10 minutes Notes
360p Small phones, status sharing 30–50 MB Lowest data use; text can look soft
720p Most phones 80–150 MB Good balance of sharpness and size
1080p Large phones, tablets, laptops, TVs 150–300 MB Full HD; ideal for tutorials and films
1440p / 4K 4K monitors and TVs 400 MB to 1 GB+ Only worth it on a 4K screen

For a phone, 720p and 1080p look nearly identical on a 6-inch screen. Choose 1080p when the video has small text, fine detail or will be shown on a TV or projector. Choose 720p when you are on mobile data or short on storage. For the data-saving side of things, see how to download YouTube videos for free online.

Why 1080p is sometimes not available

If you do not see a 1080p option, one of these is usually the reason:

  • The creator uploaded in 720p or lower. Fistty cannot create detail that was never uploaded. Many older videos and phone recordings are 720p.
  • YouTube is still processing. New uploads appear first in low quality and gain HD a few minutes to hours later. Try again later.
  • The video is a Short. Shorts are vertical and often 1080×1920, which Fistty lists as 1080p, but some are lower. See how to download YouTube Shorts.
  • The video is private. Private videos cannot be downloaded in any quality by any online tool.

Upscaling a 720p video to 1080p in an editor does not add real detail; it only makes the file larger. It is better to download the best available quality and leave it as it is.

Playing and managing 1080p files on your phone

Android

Open Gallery or Google Photos and the MP4 is there. For long videos, VLC or MX Player handle seeking and subtitles better than the built-in player. If storage is tight, move the file to an SD card from the Files app.

iPhone

Safari downloads go to Files. To watch in the Photos app and use AirPlay to a TV, open Files, long-press the MP4, tap Share and then Save Video. A 1080p file of 20 minutes can be 500 MB, so check your free space first. Full iPhone steps are in how to download YouTube videos on iPhone without jailbreak.

Computer and TV

Copy the MP4 to a USB stick and plug it into the TV, or use a casting app. Nearly all TVs made in the last ten years play 1080p MP4 with AAC audio, which is exactly what Fistty produces.

Getting the best result every time

  • Use Wi-Fi for 1080p. A full HD film can be more than 2 GB.
  • Check the YouTube quality first. Tap the gear icon on the video in YouTube and look at the available resolutions. If 1080p is there, Fistty can get it.
  • Keep the original file. Each re-encode in an editor loses detail. If you plan to trim, do it once.
  • Name your files. If you download many videos, rename each MP4 in the Files app right after it saves so you can find it again later.
  • Download audio separately if needed. Paste the same link and choose MP3 to get just the sound. Our guide on how to convert YouTube to MP3 online explains that path.

Is converting YouTube to MP4 allowed?

Saving a video for personal, offline viewing is generally fine. YouTube Premium even offers an official offline mode. What is not fine is uploading the MP4 elsewhere as your own, selling it or using copyrighted footage in your monetised content without permission. For content you want to reuse, look for Creative Commons videos or ask the creator. Fistty handles rights-holder requests through its DMCA page.

Avoiding bad converters in 2026

Search for “YouTube to MP4” and you will find sites with fake download buttons, redirects and notification prompts. Fistty does none of this. One page, one box, one Download button, and the file starts from the format you tapped. If a site asks you to install a “codec”, a browser extension or an app before you can download, close it. Those requests are a sign of adware, not a real converter. For a detailed look at one popular example, read Is Y2Mate safe?
