The simplest way to do a Naija music video download is from the artist’s official YouTube upload. Copy the link from the YouTube app, paste it into Fistty’s YouTube downloader, and choose MP4 to keep the video or MP3 to keep only the song. The file saves to your phone for offline listening, with no app and no sign-up.
Download it now with Fistty. Paste the link, tap Download. No app, no login, free.
How to download a Naija music video and convert it to MP3
- Find the official video on YouTube. Open the YouTube app and search for the song name plus the artist, for example “Asake Lonely At The Top official video”. Pick the upload from the artist’s own channel or the record label’s channel. Official artist channels show a small music-note badge next to the name, and verified channels show a tick. Skip random “lyrics video” re-uploads; they are often lower quality or cut short.
- Copy the link. Tap Share under the video (the arrow icon beside Like and Dislike), then tap Copy link.
- Open Fistty. In Chrome, Phoenix or any browser, go to fistty.com/youtube-video-downloader. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
- Paste and tap Download. Long-press the box, tap Paste, then tap Download. Fistty reads the video and lists the formats it found.
- Choose MP4 or MP3. Pick an MP4 quality such as 720p or 480p if you want the video. Pick MP3 if you only want the audio. There is no separate MP3 page; both options sit on the same YouTube tool page.
- Save and find the file. On Android, the file goes to the Downloads folder. Videos show in Gallery, and MP3 files show up in your music player. On iPhone, Safari saves the file to the Files app under Downloads, and you can play it from there.
That is the whole process. The first time takes about a minute. After that, it is copy, paste, tap.
Why start from the official YouTube upload
Almost every Nigerian artist, from Burna Boy and Davido to new acts out of Lagos and Port Harcourt, posts official videos on YouTube. Starting there gives you three things:
- Best quality. The official upload is the master version, so the sound is clean and the picture is sharp. Re-uploads are copies of copies.
- The right version. You get the full song, not a 60-second clip, a slowed remix or a version with somebody else’s voice-over on top.
- The artist gets counted. Your view on the official video helps the artist’s numbers. Downloading a copy from a random channel does nothing for them.
If you already pay for YouTube Premium, Spotify, Apple Music, Audiomack or Boomplay, those apps also let you save songs offline inside the app. That is the fully official route and it supports the artist on every play. The downside is that the files stay locked inside the app, so you cannot move them to a music player, a car USB stick or a memory card. That is where a plain MP3 or MP4 on your phone is useful.
MP4 or MP3: which one should you pick?
Both come from the same YouTube link on Fistty. The choice depends on how you plan to use the file.
| Format | Best for | Data use | Where it plays |
|---|---|---|---|
| MP3 | Listening on the go, playlists, car stereo, ringtone | Smallest by far | Any music player, Files app, WhatsApp voice-style sharing |
| MP4 480p | WhatsApp status clips, small screens, saving data | Low | Gallery, any video player |
| MP4 720p | Watching the full video on your phone | Medium | Gallery, any video player |
| MP4 1080p | Playing on a TV through USB or casting | High | Gallery, TV media player |
A good rule: if you will only listen, take the MP3. A four-minute MP3 is a small fraction of the size of the same song as a 1080p video. If you want the dance moves or the visuals, take 480p for sharing and 720p for watching. For a deeper look at the MP3 side, read How to Convert YouTube to MP3 Online (High Quality).
Save data on MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile
Music videos are heavy. If you are on a mid-range Infinix, Tecno, Samsung or itel phone with a daily or weekly bundle, these habits matter.
- Download the MP3 first. Hear the song first. Only download the video if you really want to watch it.
- Use 480p for status. WhatsApp compresses status videos anyway, so a 1080p file gives you no advantage and costs more data.
- Batch on Wi-Fi. Keep a list of songs in your notes app and download them all when you reach Wi-Fi at work, school or a friend’s house.
- Use night bundles. MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile sell night plans for a few hundred Naira or less. Prices change, so check your network’s app. Download a whole album in one night.
- Share by Xender or Bluetooth. One person downloads, everybody else collects the file for free. No data used.

Build an offline Naija playlist on your phone
Once you have a few songs, a little organisation makes them much easier to enjoy.
Make a folder
Open the Files app, go to Downloads, and create a folder called something like “Naija 2026”. Move your MP3 files into it. Most music players, including Samsung Music, Mi Music and the basic player on Infinix and Tecno phones, will pick up the folder automatically.
Rename the files
Downloaded files often carry the full YouTube title, which is long and messy. Long-press a file, tap Rename, and use the pattern “Artist – Song Title.mp3”. Your player will then sort and search them properly.
Make a status clip
To post a song on WhatsApp status, download the 480p MP4, open WhatsApp, tap Status, choose the video and use the trim bar at the top to pick the part you want. WhatsApp limits each status clip, so you may need two or three clips for a full chorus. Our guide How to Download Videos for WhatsApp Status (Right Size and Length) explains the limits.
Move to a memory card or USB
If your phone has a microSD slot, move the folder there to free up internal storage. For a car stereo, copy the MP3 files to a USB stick using a laptop or a USB OTG adapter.
What is allowed, and what is not
Keep this simple and you will stay on the right side of the line.
- Fine: downloading a public music video for your own offline listening, playing it in your car, or making a short status clip.
- Not fine: re-uploading the song or video to your own YouTube, TikTok or Facebook page as if it were yours; using it as the soundtrack of an advert or a paid skit without a licence; selling it on CDs, memory cards or phones; or posting “free download” links for other people.
Artists and labels can ask for a link to be removed, and Fistty respects those requests through the DMCA page. The best way to enjoy Naija music offline and still support the people who make it is to stream the official video too, follow the artist, and buy or stream through official stores when you can.

Frequently asked questions
How can I download Naija music videos to my phone?
Copy the link of the official video from the YouTube app, paste it into Fistty's YouTube downloader and choose an MP4 quality. The file saves to your Downloads folder.
How do I convert a Naija music video to MP3?
Paste the YouTube link into Fistty and choose MP3 instead of MP4. Fistty gives you the audio only, which is much smaller than the video.
Is it legal to download Naija songs for offline listening?
Downloading a public video for your own personal, offline listening is generally fine. Re-uploading, selling or using the song in your own content without permission is not.
Which quality is best for a WhatsApp status music clip?
480p is enough. WhatsApp compresses status videos, so a higher quality costs more data without looking better.
Where do downloaded MP3 files go on Android?
They go to the Downloads folder. Most music players find them automatically, or you can open them from the Files app.
Do I need an app to download music videos from YouTube?
No. Fistty works in Chrome, Phoenix, Safari or any browser. There is no app to install and no account to create.
