Fistty is first because it is free, needs no login, offers SD and HD, and also handles TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and more on one site. How to download a Facebook video without FDown (using Fistty)

  1. Copy the link in Facebook. Open the video, tap the Share arrow under it and tap Copy link. On a computer, click the three dots at the top right of the post and choose Copy link. For a Reel, tap Share on the right side of the screen.
  2. Open Fistty. Go to Fistty’s Facebook downloader in Chrome, Safari or any browser. There is no app to install.
  3. Paste the link. Long-press the box, tap Paste, then tap Download.
  4. Choose SD or HD. Fistty shows the qualities that exist for that video. Pick HD for sharing or watching on a big screen, SD to save data.
  5. Save the file. On Android the video goes to the Downloads folder and appears in Gallery. On iPhone, Safari saves it to the Files app under Downloads; open it, tap Share, then Save Video to move it to Photos.

If you have used FDown, this feels familiar: paste, pick a quality, download. The main change is that the same Fistty site also saves TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Telegram and Moj videos.

Why people look for an FDown alternative

FDown, also known as FBDown, has been one of the most used Facebook downloaders for years. It is simple and it works for public videos. People still look for other options for a few reasons:

  • Facebook only. FDown does not download TikTok, Instagram or YouTube. If you save videos from several apps, you end up with several sites.
  • Breaks after Facebook updates. Every Facebook downloader stops working for a while when Facebook changes how videos are served. A second bookmarked tool means you are never stuck.
  • Ads near the result. Like most free sites, FDown shows ads, and some sit close to the real Download button.
  • Look-alike domains. Several sites use “FDown” or “FBDown” with a different ending. Our red flags checklist for fake downloader sites helps you tell them apart.
  • Private videos. FDown has an “advanced” method for private videos that asks you to paste page source code. It is fiddly, and no online tool can fetch friends-only content directly. We explain the honest options in How to Download Private Facebook Videos.

None of these points mean FDown is unsafe. They are reasons to know your options.

6 FDown alternatives for Facebook videos

1. Fistty (website, free)

Fistty is a free website with a dedicated Facebook page plus pages for TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Telegram and Moj. You paste a public Facebook link and pick SD or HD. There is no account, no app and no password request. Pro: works on any phone or computer, covers many platforms, clear download buttons. Con: one link at a time; no bulk downloads.

2. Getfvid

Getfvid is a Facebook-focused downloader that works much like FDown. Paste a link and pick Normal or HD. Pro: quick and familiar if you are coming from FDown. Con: Facebook only, and the result page has ads.

3. SnapSave

SnapSave handles Facebook and TikTok, and it offers HD for Facebook videos when the source is HD. Pro: two big platforms in one place. Con: many copy sites use the name, so bookmark the real one. Our SnapSave alternatives post goes deeper.

4. SaveFrom

SaveFrom supports Facebook, YouTube and several other sites. Pro: wide coverage. Con: it promotes a browser extension and an Android app, and the prompts can be confusing for new users. You do not need either to download from the site.

5. 4K Video Downloader (desktop)

4K Video Downloader is a program for Windows, Mac and Linux. It downloads Facebook videos and also handles YouTube playlists and channels. Pro: bulk downloads and high-quality options. Con: needs a computer and an install, and the free version has limits; the full version is paid.

6. yt-dlp (command line)

yt-dlp is a free, open-source command-line tool that supports Facebook and hundreds of other sites. Pro: very reliable, updated often, handles bulk jobs. Con: no buttons; you type commands in a terminal, so it suits technical users only.

Getting the best quality from a Facebook download

A downloader can only give you what Facebook stores. If the person uploaded a 480p video, no tool will produce 1080p. When Fistty or FDown shows only an SD option, that is usually why. Facebook also compresses videos, so even an HD download may look softer than the original file on the creator’s phone.

A few tips help. Choose HD when it is offered and you are on Wi-Fi. Download Reels directly from the Reel link rather than from a shared post, because the shared post sometimes points to a lower copy. If a Live video is still streaming, wait until it ends and Facebook publishes the recording; our guide on downloading Facebook Live videos after the stream ends covers this. For stories, which expire after 24 hours, see How to Download Facebook Stories.

Data matters too, especially on a mobile bundle. An HD Facebook video can use three times the data of the SD copy. If you only want to watch the clip once on your phone, SD is usually enough. Save HD for videos you plan to keep, show on a TV or edit later. Downloading on Wi-Fi, or on a night bundle, keeps your daytime data free for other things.

Staying safe while you switch tools

Any downloader, including FDown and Fistty, should only need the public link. If a site asks you to log in with Facebook, close it. If a Download button opens a new tab with an unrelated page, that was an ad; go back and look for the real button near your pasted link. Say no to push-notification prompts, and do not install an extension or APK just to see a download link.

Finally, remember the basic rule: downloading a video for your own offline viewing is generally fine, but re-uploading someone else’s video as your own can break Facebook’s rules and copyright law. Fistty’s DMCA page explains how we handle takedown requests.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to FDown?

Fistty is a good first choice because it is free, needs no login, offers SD and HD for Facebook videos and also covers TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. Getfvid and SnapSave are solid Facebook-focused backups.

Is FDown the same as FBDown?

Yes. FDown and FBDown are two names for the same long-running Facebook video downloader. Be careful with copy sites that use similar names with different endings.

Can an FDown alternative download private Facebook videos?

No online tool, including Fistty, can fetch friends-only or group-only videos. The honest options are to ask the owner to send the file or to ask them to download their own copy.

Why is my Facebook download only in SD?

The downloader can only offer the qualities Facebook stores. If the video was uploaded in SD, no tool will produce HD.

Do I need to install anything to replace FDown?

No. Fistty, Getfvid, SnapSave and SaveFrom all work in your browser. Only 4K Video Downloader and yt-dlp need to be installed on a computer.

Is it legal to download Facebook videos?

Saving a public video for your own offline viewing is generally fine. Re-uploading someone else's video as your own can break Facebook's terms and copyright law, so ask the creator first.
