How to Download Facebook Videos in 1080p and 4K

Facebook only stores a video in 1080p or 4K if it was uploaded that way. Here is how to download the best quality Facebook has with Fistty, and how to check what is actually available.

For a Facebook video download in HD, copy the video link from the post, paste it into Fistty’s Facebook downloader, tap Download, and pick the HD option. Fistty gives you the highest quality Facebook stored for that video, which is 1080p or 4K only if the uploader posted it that way with HD upload turned on. Most Facebook videos top out at 720p, and no tool can add detail that was never uploaded.

This guide shows the download steps, how to tell what quality a video really has, why so many videos are stuck at 720p, and how to make sure your own uploads are stored in full HD.

Download it now with Fistty. Paste the link, tap Download. No app, no login, free.

How to download a Facebook video in HD on Fistty

  1. Open the video and check it is public. Under the poster’s name, look for the globe icon. Public videos from pages, public profiles, and public groups can be downloaded. Friends-only and private-group videos cannot be fetched by any tool.
  2. Copy the link. Tap the three dots at the top right of the post and tap Copy link. You can also tap Share under the video and tap Copy link. For a Reel, the three dots are at the bottom right; our Facebook Reels guide shows the exact spot.
  3. Open Fistty’s Facebook downloader. In any browser, go to fistty.com/download-facebook-videos. There is no app to install and no login. Fistty never asks for your password.
  4. Paste and tap Download. Tap inside the box, paste the link, and tap Download. Fistty reads the post and lists the quality options Facebook makes available.
  5. Pick the HD option. You will see labels such as HD and SD. Some videos show the exact resolution, like 1080p or 720p. Pick HD for the best quality. If only SD appears, Facebook does not have a higher version of that video, and no other site will have one either.
  6. Find the file. On Android it lands in the Downloads folder and shows in Gallery. On iPhone, Safari puts it in the Files app under Downloads; open it, tap the share icon, and tap Save Video to move it to Photos.

Check the result by opening the video full screen. Sharp text, clean edges, and no blockiness in dark areas are the signs of a true 1080p file. If it looks soft, read the next section.

Why most Facebook videos are only 720p

Facebook re-encodes every video that is uploaded. It creates several versions at different sizes so it can send a small one on slow connections and a bigger one on Wi-Fi. The largest version it creates depends on three things.

  • The original upload. If the creator uploaded a 720p file, Facebook will never have 1080p. A 4K file uploaded from a camera or a flagship phone gives Facebook the material to create 1080p, 1440p, and 4K versions.
  • The uploader’s HD setting. The Facebook app compresses videos to SD by default when uploading on mobile data. The uploader has to turn on Upload HD in the app settings. Many people never do, so their 1080p phone recordings reach Facebook as 720p or lower.
  • Processing time. Right after a video is posted, Facebook often has only the SD version ready. The HD version appears minutes to an hour later. If you download a brand-new video and only see SD, wait and try again.

Fistty shows you exactly what Facebook has. It does not upscale or relabel a 720p file as 1080p. Sites that always show “4K” for every video are lying about the label, and the file they give you is the same 720p everyone else gets. If you want to understand the real difference between the two common options, our 720p vs 1080p guide breaks it down.

How to check what quality a Facebook video really has

You can check before you download. Open the video in the Facebook app, tap it to show the controls, and tap the gear icon (or the three dots, then Quality). The list shows the resolutions Facebook has for that video, for example 360p, 720p, 1080p. The top entry is the best you can get from any downloader. On the website, the same gear icon sits in the bottom right corner of the player.

Fistty reads the same list and offers the same top entry as HD. If the Facebook player shows 1080p but Fistty only offers 720p, the video may still be processing or the link may point to a shared copy rather than the original post. Open the original post and copy the link again.

Facebook video quality options at a glance

Resolution Facebook label Typical size per minute Best for
360p SD 3 to 5 MB WhatsApp forwarding, very low data
720p HD 10 to 20 MB Phone viewing, most Facebook videos
1080p HD (Full HD) 25 to 45 MB Reposting, TV viewing, editing
1440p / 4K HD (2K / 4K) 60 to 150 MB Large screens, professional editing

Sizes are rough and depend on how much movement is in the video. A talking-head clip is much smaller than a football match at the same resolution.

How to make sure your own Facebook videos are stored in HD

If you upload videos to Facebook and want people (including yourself) to be able to download them in 1080p or 4K, set this up once.

In the Facebook app

  1. Tap your profile picture or the menu icon, then Settings and privacy, then Settings.
  2. Scroll to Media (on some versions it is under Preferences, then Media and contacts).
  3. Under Video quality, choose Optimized or turn on Upload HD for videos. There is a separate switch for photos.
  4. Record in 1080p or 4K in your camera app. Most Android phones and all recent iPhones can do this in the camera settings.
  5. Upload on Wi-Fi. HD uploads are large, and the app may fall back to SD on a weak mobile connection.

On a computer

Uploads from the Facebook website keep the original resolution up to 4K, so a laptop upload is the surest way to get a 4K version on Facebook. Pages and creators who post from Meta Business Suite get the same result.

After posting, wait for processing to finish, then open the video and check the gear icon. When 1080p or 4K appears there, Fistty will offer it as HD.

Saving data when downloading in HD

HD files are big. A 10-minute 1080p Facebook video can be 300 MB or more, which hurts on a mobile bundle in Nigeria, Ghana, or anywhere data is paid per gigabyte. A few habits keep this under control.

  • Download HD on Wi-Fi and SD on mobile data.
  • Pick 720p for anything you will only watch on a phone screen. On a 6-inch display the difference from 1080p is hard to see.
  • Keep the browser open until the download completes. A stalled HD download may need to start over and burns data twice. See our fix for downloads stuck at 99 percent.
  • Delete the SD copy if you downloaded both. Duplicate videos fill a phone fast.

Troubleshooting HD downloads

Only SD appears. The uploader posted in SD, or the HD version is still processing. Check the gear icon in the Facebook player. If it also shows only 360p or 480p, that is the limit.

The HD file looks blurry. Open it in a different player. Some gallery apps show a low-quality preview until the video is fully loaded. If it is still soft, the source was upscaled before upload; our guide on blurry downloaded videos explains other causes.

The download has no sound. Rare on Facebook, but it happens with some 4K files on older phones. Try playing it in VLC or another player.

Fistty says the video is unavailable. The post is private, was deleted, or the link points to a feed rather than a single video. Open the video itself and copy the link again.

Frequently asked questions

Can you download Facebook videos in 1080p?

Yes, if the uploader posted the video in 1080p with HD upload turned on. Paste the link on Fistty and pick the HD option to get the best quality Facebook stored.

Why is my Facebook video download only 720p?

Facebook only stores the resolutions it received. If the creator uploaded in 720p, or uploaded from the app without HD upload enabled, 720p is the highest version that exists.

Does Facebook support 4K video?

Yes. Facebook accepts uploads up to 4K and stores them when the file was uploaded in that quality, usually from a computer or with HD upload turned on in the app.

How do I check the quality of a Facebook video?

Tap the video to show the controls, then tap the gear icon. The list shows every resolution Facebook has for that video. The top one is the best any downloader can give you.

How do I upload HD videos to Facebook?

In the Facebook app go to Settings, then Media, and turn on Upload HD for videos. Record in 1080p or 4K and upload on Wi-Fi. Uploads from a computer keep the original quality.

Is a 1080p Facebook video download large?

Roughly 25 to 45 MB per minute, depending on the content. A 10-minute video can be 300 MB or more, so download HD on Wi-Fi when you can.
