To download a YouTube video in Ghana, copy the video link from the YouTube app, paste it into Fistty’s free YouTube downloader and tap Download. You can pick 480p or 720p to save data, or choose MP3 for audio only. No app, no login and no payment. The file lands in your Downloads folder and plays offline, so you only spend data once.
This guide is written for someone on a mid-range Android phone using MTN Ghana, Telecel or AirtelTigo data, where every megabyte counts.
Download it now with Fistty. Paste the link, tap Download. No app, no login, free.
How to download a YouTube video in Ghana on Fistty
The whole process takes about a minute on a normal 4G connection. Here are the steps.
- Copy the video link. Open the YouTube app and play the video. Tap Share under the video (the arrow icon next to Like and Dislike). In the share sheet, tap Copy link. The link looks like https://youtu.be/….
- Open Fistty’s YouTube downloader. Go to https://fistty.com/youtube-video-downloader/ in Chrome, Opera or any browser on your phone.
- Paste the link. Tap the box, hold for a second and tap Paste. Then tap Download.
- Choose the quality. Fistty lists the available options, usually 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p and MP3. On mobile data, pick 480p for talk videos and 720p for music videos or football highlights where the picture matters.
- Wait for the download. Chrome shows a progress notification at the top of the screen. Do not switch off the screen until it says Download complete.
- Find the video. Open the Downloads folder in Files, or open Gallery and look under Downloads or Videos. The video plays with no internet.
If you are on an iPhone, the download saves to the Files app under Downloads. Tap it, then Share and Save Video to move it to Photos.
How much data does a YouTube download use?
Streaming the same video twice costs you twice. Downloading once costs you once. That is the main reason to download rather than stream on Ghanaian mobile data. The file size depends on length and quality. These are rough figures for a 10-minute video:
| Quality | Size for 10 minutes (approx.) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| MP3 (audio only) | 8–15 MB | Sermons, podcasts, music to listen to |
| 360p | 30–50 MB | Very low data, small phone screen |
| 480p | 50–90 MB | Talk videos, tutorials, news |
| 720p | 100–180 MB | Music videos, football, anything you will watch again |
| 1080p | 200–400 MB | Only on Wi-Fi |
So a 1GB bundle gives you roughly ten 480p videos of ten minutes each, or four to five in 720p. If you are not sure, start with 480p. On a 6.5-inch phone screen the difference between 480p and 720p is smaller than most people expect. Our guide on downloading YouTube videos with low data goes deeper on this.
Data tips for MTN Ghana, Telecel and AirtelTigo
Bundle prices change often, even within 2026, so treat these as examples and check the current offers in your network’s app before buying.
MTN Ghana
MTN has the widest 4G coverage in Ghana, which means faster downloads in most towns. Check the MyMTN app or dial *138# for the current bundle list. Many users find the social and video bundles are cheaper per megabyte than general data for YouTube. A midnight or night bundle, where offered, is a good time to download longer videos. Set your downloads to run then and sleep while they finish.
Telecel Ghana
Telecel (formerly Vodafone Ghana) usually offers bundles that last several days, which suits people who download in batches. Check the Telecel app or dial *110# for options. If you are near a Telecel fibre or home broadband connection, such as at an office or a friend’s house, that is the cheapest place to download in 720p or 1080p.
AirtelTigo
AirtelTigo bundles are often competitive on price per gigabyte, and the network is strong in many parts of Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi. Dial *111# or use the AirtelTigo app. Coverage drops in some rural areas, so download before you travel, not during.
As a rough example only, a 1GB bundle on any of the three networks might cost somewhere around GH₵5 to GH₵12 depending on the validity period and promotion. At that rate, a single 720p music video could cost you close to a cedi to stream each time. Downloading it once and replaying it offline is the simple way to stop paying twice.
Use Wi-Fi where you can
Many workplaces, university campuses, churches and cafes in Ghana offer Wi-Fi. If you have access, that is the moment to download the bigger files. Put the videos you want in a YouTube playlist during the week, then download them all when you are on Wi-Fi. Fistty handles each link one at a time, so paste them in turn. If you need a whole playlist, see how to download a full YouTube playlist.
If you share a home Wi-Fi router with family, download early in the morning or late at night when nobody else is streaming. A 720p file that takes ten minutes on a busy evening connection often finishes in two or three minutes when the line is quiet.
Turn off background data for apps you are not using while on mobile data. On most Android phones, go to Settings → Network → Data usage, open the app and switch off background data. This stops other apps eating the bundle while your video downloads.
Tips for mid-range Android phones
Most Ghanaian users are on Android phones from Samsung’s A series, Infinix, Tecno or itel with 32GB or 64GB of storage. A few habits keep downloads smooth:
- Check free space first. Go to Settings → Storage. Keep at least 2GB free so the phone does not slow down.
- Use Chrome or Opera. Both show a clear download notification and let you open the file when it is done. Opera Mini also has a data-saving mode that helps on slow networks.
- Move old videos to an SD card. Open Files, long-press a video, tap Move and choose the SD card. Our guide on downloading videos on a 2GB or 4GB phone covers this in detail.
- Delete WhatsApp media you do not need. WhatsApp forwards often take more space than your downloads.
What to check if the download fails
If Fistty does not return the video, check the following:
- Is the link complete? A cut-off link returns an “invalid link” message. Copy it again from the YouTube app.
- Is the video public? Private videos and some members-only videos cannot be fetched by any tool.
- Did the network drop? On a weak 3G signal the download can stop part-way. Move to a spot with better signal or wait for Wi-Fi.
- Is the file too big for your storage? Choose a lower quality and try again.

Downloading responsibly
Downloading a YouTube video to watch offline on your own phone is a personal use most creators do not mind. Re-uploading someone else’s video to your own channel, or selling copies, is a different matter and can break YouTube’s rules and copyright law. Keep your downloads for yourself, and support Ghanaian creators by subscribing and watching their new uploads when you are online.

Frequently asked questions
How can I download YouTube videos in Ghana for free?
Copy the video link from the YouTube app, paste it into Fistty's YouTube downloader at fistty.com/ and tap Download. It is free, needs no app or login and saves the video to your Downloads folder.
Which quality should I pick on MTN Ghana data?
Pick 480p for talk videos and 720p for music or sports. A 10-minute 480p video is roughly 50 to 90 MB, while 720p is about 100 to 180 MB. Save 1080p for Wi-Fi.
Can I download YouTube videos on Telecel or AirtelTigo data?
Yes. Fistty works on any network. Use the network's app or short code to check for night or multi-day bundles, which often give you more data for the same cedis.
Does downloading use less data than streaming?
For a video you watch more than once, yes. Streaming costs the full size every time you play it. A download costs that size once and then plays offline for free.
Where does the downloaded YouTube video go on my Android phone?
It saves to the Downloads folder. Open the Files app and tap Downloads, or open Gallery and look for a Downloads or Videos album.
Is it legal to download YouTube videos in Ghana?
Downloading for personal offline viewing is generally fine. Re-uploading someone else's video as your own or selling copies can break YouTube's terms and copyright law, so keep downloads for yourself.
