Download official Nollywood trailers and clips from studio YouTube channels with Fistty. Copy the link, paste, pick 480p or 720p and watch offline or share on WhatsApp status. No app, no login, and a word on why full pirated films are off the table.

For a Nollywood movie trailer download, copy the trailer link from the studio’s official YouTube channel, paste it into Fistty’s free YouTube downloader and tap Download. The same steps work for official clips, behind-the-scenes videos and the first-ten-minutes previews that studios post to YouTube.

This guide covers official trailers and clips only. Full films uploaded by someone other than the studio are pirated copies, and we explain below why you should leave those alone.

How to download a Nollywood trailer from YouTube on Fistty

Here is the process on an Android phone or iPhone. It is the same for a two-minute teaser or a ten-minute official clip.

  1. Find the official trailer. In the YouTube app, search the film title plus “official trailer”. Pick the upload from the studio, production company or streaming service that released the film, not a fan re-upload. The channel usually has a verified tick and the film’s poster as its banner.
  2. Copy the link. Tap Share under the video (the arrow next to Like) and tap Copy link in the share sheet.
  3. Open Fistty’s YouTube downloader. Go to https://fistty.com/youtube-video-downloader/ in Chrome, Opera or Safari. No app, no login, no payment.
  4. Paste the link and tap Download. Tap the box, hold, tap Paste, then Download.
  5. Choose the quality. Pick 480p for WhatsApp status or a quick watch, 720p if you want the trailer to look sharp on your phone, and 1080p only on Wi-Fi. There is also an MP3 option if you only want the soundtrack.
  6. Find the file. On Android it goes to the Downloads folder and shows in Gallery. On iPhone it saves to the Files app under Downloads; tap Share → Save Video to move it to Photos.

Where to find official Nollywood trailers and clips

Nollywood studios and distributors are active on YouTube in 2026, and most trailers are posted there first. Look for these kinds of channels:

  • The production company’s own channel. Big studios run channels that post trailers, teasers, cast interviews and premiere footage.
  • The streaming service’s channel. When a Nollywood film goes to a streaming platform, the platform’s official channel usually posts the trailer and a few clips.
  • The distributor or cinema chain’s channel. Cinema chains post trailers for films showing that week.
  • The director’s or lead actor’s verified channel. Many filmmakers post their own trailers and behind-the-scenes clips.

If you cannot find the trailer on YouTube, check the studio’s Instagram or TikTok page. Many studios post the same trailer there as a Reel. You can download that with Fistty’s Instagram downloader, though the YouTube version is usually higher quality and uncropped, so it is the better copy to keep.

How to tell an official upload from a copy: the official one is usually the first upload by date, has the highest view count for that trailer, carries the studio’s name in the channel title and has a clean description with the release date and cast. A copy often has “FULL MOVIE” or random keywords in the title, odd cropping and a logo stamped over the original.

Trailers, clips and full films: what is fine and what is not

This matters, so here it is plainly.

Content Downloading for personal use Why
Official trailer or teaser Fine Studios publish trailers to be shared. Saving one to watch offline or post on status is what they want.
Official clip or first-10-minutes preview Fine Also a promotional release by the rights holder.
Full film uploaded by the studio itself Grey area Some studios release older films free on YouTube. Watching offline for yourself is low risk; re-sharing is not.
Full film uploaded by a random channel Not fine This is piracy. The uploader has no right to it, and downloading it supports the theft of the filmmaker’s work.

Nollywood is one of the largest film industries in the world by output, but many productions run on tight budgets. Piracy takes money from the actors, crew and producers who made the film you want to watch. If you enjoy the trailer, watch the film through the cinema, the streaming service or the studio’s official channel. Rights holders can report pirated content through Fistty’s DMCA page. The same personal-use principle applies to TikTok and other platforms; see is it legal to download TikTok videos for a plain-language explanation.

Sharing trailers on WhatsApp status

Trailers are made for sharing, and WhatsApp status is where many Nigerians first hear about a new film. A few tips:

  • Trim to the best part. WhatsApp has a length limit for status videos. When you pick the trailer in status, drag the handles on the timeline to choose the most exciting 30 seconds or so.
  • Start from 480p or 720p. WhatsApp compresses every status video, so a clean download gives a much better result than a screen recording.
  • Add the release date and where to watch. A caption like “In cinemas Friday” or “Streaming now” helps the film and your friends.
  • Tag the studio if you post on Instagram or TikTok too. Studios often repost fan shares.

Our guide to downloading videos for WhatsApp status has more on trimming and sizes.

Keeping your trailers organised

If you follow Nollywood closely, trailers pile up fast. Open the Files app, go to Downloads and create a folder called Trailers. Move each download there and rename it with the film title and year, for example Film Title 2026 Trailer.mp4. Once a month, delete the trailers for films you have already watched. If you have an SD card, keep the Trailers folder there so your internal storage stays free for apps and WhatsApp.

Saving data on trailers

A two-minute trailer in 720p is usually 20 to 40 MB, and in 480p about 10 to 20 MB. That is small, but if you download every trailer that trends, it adds up on MTN, Airtel, Glo or 9mobile data. Pick 480p for status use, since WhatsApp will shrink it anyway. Save 720p and 1080p for Wi-Fi or your night bundle. Longer official clips, such as ten-minute previews, can reach 100 MB in 720p, so treat those like a full video and download them on Wi-Fi where possible. See how to download YouTube videos with low data for the full set of tips, and if your phone is short on space, downloading videos on a 2GB or 4GB phone.

What to check if the trailer will not download

  • The upload is a Premiere that has not started. Studios schedule trailer premieres. Wait until it has aired, then copy the link again.
  • The video is age-restricted. Some trailers for 18+ films are age-gated, which means link-based tools often cannot fetch them. Watch it in the app instead.
  • You copied a channel or playlist link. Open the specific trailer and copy that link.
  • The network dropped. Move to a better signal and try again. Chrome resumes some downloads if you tap the notification.

Frequently asked questions

How do I download a Nollywood movie trailer from YouTube?

Open the official trailer in the YouTube app, tap Share, then Copy link. Paste the link into Fistty's YouTube downloader, tap Download and pick 480p or 720p. The trailer saves to your Downloads folder.

Can I download full Nollywood movies from YouTube with Fistty?

Fistty only downloads what is public on YouTube, but full films uploaded by random channels are pirated and you should not download them. Stick to official trailers and clips, and watch the full film through official channels.

Is it legal to download a movie trailer?

Trailers are promotional material that studios publish to be shared, so saving one for personal viewing or WhatsApp status is generally fine. Re-uploading it with your own branding is not.

How do I know if a trailer is from the official channel?

Look for the studio, distributor or streaming service name on the channel, a verified tick, the earliest upload date and a clean description with the release date and cast.

What quality should I pick for a trailer on WhatsApp status?

480p is enough, because WhatsApp compresses status videos anyway. Pick 720p if you want a sharp copy to keep on your phone.

Why will the trailer not download?

It may be a scheduled Premiere that has not aired, an age-restricted video, or a channel link rather than a video link. Open the specific trailer, copy the link again and retry.
