If your TikTok video is not downloading, the cause is almost always one of a few things: the creator turned off saving, the video is private, the link you copied is broken, or your browser blocked the file. The fastest fix for the first and third is to copy a fresh link and paste it into Fistty’s TikTok downloader. Below are nine fixes, starting with the most common.
Download it now with Fistty. Paste the link, tap Download. No app, no login, free.
How to download a TikTok video that will not save in the app
When TikTok’s own Save video button is greyed out or missing, it is because the creator switched off downloads for that post. You can still save the video through a link-based downloader, because the setting only hides the button; the public video is still there. Here is the method that works.
- Copy the link. Tap the Share arrow on the right side of the video. Swipe along the bottom row of the share tray and tap Copy link. Ignore the greyed-out Save video button.
- Open Fistty. Go to https://fistty.com/tiktok-video-downloader/ in Chrome, Safari, Opera, or any browser.
- Paste the link and tap Download. Fistty shows a preview of the video so you can confirm it is the right one.
- Choose the version. Tap Download without watermark, or the HD option if it is shown.
- Find the file. On Android it goes to Downloads and appears in Gallery. On iPhone, Safari puts it in the Files app under Downloads; tap it, tap Share, and choose Save Video to add it to Photos.
If this works, you are done. If Fistty shows an error or the download still fails, keep reading. The fixes below are in the order you should try them.
The 9 fixes
Fix 1: Copy the link again, directly from TikTok
Links that travel through WhatsApp, Telegram, or a text message are often cut short or wrapped in a tracking link. A valid TikTok link looks like https://vm.tiktok.com/XXXXXXX/ or https://www.tiktok.com/@username/video/1234567890. If yours looks different, or ends mid-word, go back to the TikTok app, tap Share, and tap Copy link again. Paste the new link into Fistty.
Fix 2: Check whether the video is private or friends-only
This is the one fix that is not a fix. If the account is private, or the creator set the video to Friends or Only me, TikTok only sends the video to approved followers who are logged in. No online downloader, including Fistty, can get it. Any site that says it can is not telling the truth, and it may be trying to get you to install something. Open the creator’s profile. If you see a lock icon or “This account is private”, stop here.
Fix 3: Make sure the video still exists
Creators delete videos and TikTok removes them for rule breaks. Tap the link you copied. If TikTok opens on a blank page or says “Video currently unavailable”, the video is gone and nothing can download it.
Fix 4: Allow your browser to save files
On Android, Chrome needs permission to write to storage. The first time you download, it asks. If you tapped Deny, nothing will ever save. Go to Settings, then Apps, then Chrome (or Opera, or Samsung Internet), then Permissions, and switch on Files and media or Storage. On iPhone, Safari asks “Do you want to download this file?” for every download. If you tapped Cancel, just tap the download button on Fistty again and choose Download this time.
Fix 5: Turn off Data Saver and Lite mode
Infinix, Tecno, itel, and Xiaomi phones often ship with a Data Saver that stops background downloads on mobile data. Chrome also has a Lite mode that can interfere. Swipe down from the top of the screen and switch off Data Saver, or go to Settings, then Network and internet, then Data Saver, and add your browser to the unrestricted list. Try the download again. Fix 6: Free up storage
A download that reaches 100 percent and then vanishes usually means the phone ran out of space. Open Settings, then Storage. If you have less than 500 MB free, delete some old WhatsApp videos or move photos to an SD card, then try again. A single HD TikTok can be 20 MB, which is more than people expect.
Fix 7: Try a different browser
Some browsers built into budget phones have their own download managers that stall or show ads. Opera Mini in “Extreme” savings mode also blocks some downloads. Switch to plain Chrome on Android or Safari on iPhone and paste the same link. The Android guide and iPhone guide show the exact taps for each.
Fix 8: Check for a blocked-download prompt
Chrome sometimes blocks a file and shows a small bar at the bottom that says “Download blocked” or “This file might be harmful”. It does this for any video from a site it has not seen you use before, not because anything is wrong. Tap the bar, then tap Download anyway or Keep. On a computer, look for the same prompt in the download tray at the top-right of Chrome.
Fix 9: Switch networks or wait a few minutes
Mobile networks sometimes drop large downloads halfway. Move to Wi-Fi, or switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data, and try again. If TikTok itself is slow or down, Fistty cannot fetch the video either, because it reads from TikTok in real time. Wait five minutes and retry. Checking a site like downdetector will tell you if TikTok is having a wider problem.

Why TikTok’s own download fails more often than you think
TikTok’s Save video button depends on three things going right: the creator allowing downloads, your TikTok app being up to date, and TikTok’s servers responding quickly. When any one fails, the button spins or does nothing. The app also adds a moving watermark and re-encodes the file, so even a successful save is a lower-quality copy. That is why many people in 2026 skip the in-app button and use a link-based downloader for everything. You get the same public file TikTok streams to the app, without the logo, and the “downloads disabled” setting does not apply. If you want to understand the watermark side of this, read Why TikTok Downloads Have a Watermark (and How to Remove It).
What a safe downloader never does
When a download fails, it is tempting to try any site that promises a fix. Be careful. A trustworthy downloader like Fistty never asks for your TikTok password, never asks you to install an app or browser extension to “unlock” the download, and never needs you to allow notifications. If a site demands any of those, close the tab. The only thing a real downloader needs is the public link. If you have doubts about a site you have been using, our guide Is SnapTik Safe? What Happens When You Use It explains what to look for.
Finally, a reminder: downloading a public video for yourself is fine. Re-uploading someone else’s video as your own may break TikTok’s rules and copyright law, so credit the creator if you share it.

Frequently asked questions
Why can't I download a TikTok video?
The creator may have turned off downloads, the video may be private or deleted, or your browser may have blocked the file. Copy a fresh link and paste it into Fistty; if it is public, it will download.
Why is the Save video button missing on TikTok?
The creator disabled downloads for that video. You can still save a public video by copying its link and using Fistty's TikTok downloader.
Can I download a TikTok video from a private account?
No. Private and friends-only videos are only shown to approved followers inside the app. No online tool can download them.
Why does my TikTok download not show in Gallery?
Either the browser was denied storage permission or Gallery has not refreshed. Open the Files app, go to Downloads, and tap the video once to make it appear.
Why does TikTok say "Video currently unavailable"?
The video was deleted by the creator or removed by TikTok. Nothing can download a video that no longer exists.
Why does Chrome say the download is blocked?
Chrome shows a safety prompt for video files from sites it has not seen you use before. Tap the bar and choose Download anyway or Keep.
