Here is how to download videos on iPhone without any app: copy the video link from TikTok, YouTube, Facebook or Instagram, paste it into Fistty in Safari, tap Download and pick a quality. Safari saves the MP4 to the Files app in the Downloads folder, not to Photos. To get it into your camera roll, long-press the file and choose Save Video. The whole process takes about a minute.
Download it now with Fistty. Paste the link, tap Download. No app, no login, free.
How to download a video on iPhone with Safari and Fistty
These steps use a TikTok video as the example, but they are the same for every platform Fistty supports. Only the page you open changes.
- Copy the link in the app. In TikTok, tap the Share arrow on the right of the video and tap Copy link. In YouTube, tap Share under the title, then Copy link. In Facebook, tap the three dots on the post, then Copy link. In Instagram, tap the paper-plane icon on a Reel and choose Copy link.
- Open the Fistty page for that platform in Safari. Use Fistty’s TikTok downloader, YouTube downloader, Facebook downloader or Instagram downloader. For X, Snapchat, Telegram or anything else, use the box on the home page. Safari is the best browser for this because its download manager is built into iOS.
- Paste the link and tap Download. Tap and hold the box, choose Paste, then tap Download. Fistty loads a preview with the quality options.
- Choose a quality. Tap 720p or 1080p for a sharp copy, or 480p to save data. On TikTok the file has no watermark. If you want audio only, choose MP3.
- Confirm the download. Safari shows a small pop-up: “Do you want to download ‘video.mp4’?” Tap Download. A blue arrow icon appears at the top of Safari, in the address bar area. Tap it to watch progress.
- Find the file. When the arrow finishes, tap it, then tap the file name, or open the Files app and go to Downloads. The video is there and plays with a tap.
- Optional: move it to Photos. In Files, long-press the video, tap Share, then Save Video. It now appears in Photos → Recents and can be posted to WhatsApp or Instagram like any clip you recorded.
Where do downloaded videos go on iPhone? Files vs Photos
This is the part that confuses most people. On Android, downloads show up in Gallery. On iPhone, Safari and Photos are separate systems, and a browser download never goes straight to the camera roll unless you choose it.
| What you did | Where the video is | How to open it |
|---|---|---|
| Tapped Download in the Safari pop-up | Files → Downloads (or iCloud Drive → Downloads) | Files app, or the blue arrow in Safari |
| Long-pressed the video and chose Save to Photos / Save Video | Photos → Recents | Photos app |
| Downloaded in Chrome for iPhone | Files → On My iPhone → Chrome | Files app, or Chrome’s Downloads menu |
| Moved it with Share → Save Video afterwards | Both Files and Photos | Either app |
Why Files and not Photos?
iOS treats a browser download as a document. Safari has a download manager (since iOS 13) that stores everything in a Downloads folder, the same way a computer does. Photos is a separate library that only accepts media through the Save Video or Save to Photos action. That is why the pop-up says “download” and never mentions the camera roll. It also means you do not have to give Safari access to your photos at all.
Changing where Safari saves downloads
Open Settings → Apps → Safari → Downloads. You can pick iCloud Drive, On My iPhone or another folder. On older iOS versions the path is Settings → Safari → Downloads. If you have a small iCloud plan, choose On My iPhone so downloads do not use your iCloud storage. The same screen has a “Remove Download List Items” option that only clears the list in Safari, not the actual files.
Saving straight to Photos instead of Files
If you always want videos in your camera roll, there are two shortcuts.
- Long-press the quality row on Fistty. Safari shows a menu. If the file is a direct video link, you may see Save to Photos. Tap it and the video goes straight into Photos, skipping Files. If you only see “Download Linked File”, use that and move the file afterwards.
- Open the video, then share it. If the clip opens and plays in Safari instead of downloading, tap the Share icon at the bottom of Safari and choose Save Video. This also lands it in Photos.
Either way, the file in Photos is the same full-quality MP4. iOS does not compress it when you save.
Tips for iPhone downloads that fail or vanish
Safari is reliable, but a few iOS habits trip people up.
- The video plays instead of downloading. Go back, long-press the quality row and choose Download Linked File. This forces Safari to save rather than stream.
- No blue arrow appears. The download may have been blocked by a pop-up setting. Check Settings → Apps → Safari and make sure “Block Pop-ups” is not interfering, then try again. The arrow only appears during and shortly after a download, so it is normal for it to vanish later.
- “Cannot download” or storage error. Your iPhone or iCloud Drive is nearly full. Delete something or switch the Downloads location to On My iPhone.
- The file is in Files but will not open. Make sure it ends in .mp4. If Fistty gave you a .webm or audio-only file by mistake, go back and choose an MP4 row. See Downloaded Video Won’t Play? for codec fixes.
- Low Power Mode. Safari may pause large downloads when Low Power Mode is on. Turn it off from Control Centre until the file finishes.
- Using Chrome or Firefox on iPhone. They work, but downloads land in their own folder inside Files → On My iPhone. The steps are otherwise identical.

Which quality should you pick on iPhone?
Every iPhone since the X has a screen that shows 1080p well, so 1080p is a safe default on Wi-Fi. On mobile data, 720p looks nearly the same on a 6.1-inch screen and uses roughly half the data. For a WhatsApp status, 720p is plenty because WhatsApp compresses it anyway. Only pick 4K if you plan to watch on a TV or edit the clip. Fistty shows the file size next to each option, so you can judge before you tap. For a longer comparison, see 720p vs 1080p vs 4K.
Is it allowed?
Saving a public video for your own offline viewing is generally fine. Re-uploading someone else’s video as your own, or using it commercially, can break platform rules and copyright law. Private, friends-only or protected posts cannot be downloaded by any online tool, including Fistty, and it is honest to say so. Fistty never asks for your Apple ID or any platform password, and it is a website, so there is nothing to install from the App Store in 2026 or any other year.
Android user as well? The flow is slightly different because files go straight to Gallery. See How to Download Videos on Android and Save Them to Gallery.
