How to Download Telegram Videos Without the App

Save videos from public Telegram channels and groups by pasting the t.me post link into Fistty. No app, no login. Private chats and private groups cannot be downloaded, and this guide explains the difference.

A Telegram video downloader like Fistty saves videos from public channels and public groups without the Telegram app. Copy the post link (it starts with t.me/), paste it into Fistty, and tap Download to get an MP4. This works only for public posts anyone can open in a browser. Videos in private chats and private groups have no public link and cannot be fetched by any online tool.

Download it now with Fistty. Paste the link, tap Download. No app, no login, free.

How to download a Telegram video without the app on Fistty

You need a public post link. If you already have the app, you can copy it from there. If you do not, you can get it from the channel’s web page. Both paths end at the same place.

  1. Copy the post link. In the Telegram app, open the public channel or group, tap and hold the video message, and tap Copy Link (on Android it may be under the three dots, labelled Copy Post Link). On desktop, right-click the message → Copy Post Link. The link looks like https://t.me/channelname/1234. Without the app, open t.me/channelname in your browser, tap Preview channel, scroll to the post and tap its date stamp to get the link.
  2. Open Fistty’s Telegram downloader. Go to https://fistty.com/telegram-video-downloader/ in Chrome, Safari, Opera or any browser. No install, no login.
  3. Paste the link and tap Download. Fistty reads the public post and shows a preview of the video.
  4. Choose the quality. Telegram keeps whatever the uploader sent, so there is often one option. Pick HD if more than one is listed.
  5. Wait for the file. Telegram videos can be large, especially movie clips and lectures. On mobile data, check the file size first.
  6. Find the file. Android: the Downloads folder, visible in Gallery. iPhone: the Files app under Downloads; tap Share → Save Video to put it in Photos.

That is the complete method. The sections below explain which links work, what to do when they do not, and some other ways to get a Telegram video onto your phone without the app.

Which Telegram links work (and which do not)

Telegram has two kinds of links, and the difference decides everything.

Link looks like What it is Works in Fistty?
https://t.me/channelname/1234 Post in a public channel or public group Yes
https://t.me/channelname Channel home, not a specific post No, copy the post link instead
https://t.me/c/1234567890/1234 Post in a private channel or private group No, private
https://t.me/+AbCdEf… Invite link to a private group No, it is an invitation, not a post
https://t.me/username A person’s profile No, private chats have no post links

The rule is simple: if the channel has a public username and you can open t.me/channelname in a browser and see the posts, the videos can be downloaded. If the link contains /c/ or a + invite code, the content is private. Fistty, like every other online downloader, can only reach pages that are public on the web. It never asks for your phone number, login code or password, and no legitimate downloader should.

Why download Telegram videos through a browser

If you already have the app, you may wonder why bother. There are good reasons.

  • No Telegram account. Many people in Nigeria and Ghana receive a t.me link on WhatsApp and do not want to sign up just to watch one video. Fistty opens the public post without an account.
  • Storage control. The app caches every video you watch in a hidden folder that fills up fast. A browser download gives you one clean MP4 in Downloads.
  • Restricted saving. Some channels turn on Restrict saving content, which hides the Save to Gallery option in the app. If the channel is still public, the post is still visible on the web.
  • Blocked app. Telegram is restricted on some school, office and public Wi-Fi networks. The web and Fistty usually still load.
  • Low-end phones. On itel and older Tecno phones, the Telegram app can be slow. A browser download is lighter.

Other ways to get Telegram videos without the app

Fistty is the simplest, but it helps to know the alternatives.

Telegram Web

Go to web.telegram.org in your browser. You still need a Telegram account and a phone to receive the login code, but no app. Open the channel, hover over or tap the video, and use the download arrow. This works for private groups you belong to, which Fistty cannot reach, because you are logged in as yourself.

The channel preview page

For a public channel, t.me/s/channelname shows a web preview of recent posts. Videos play in the page, and on desktop you can right-click and choose Save video as. On phones this often fails or gives a low-quality preview, which is where Fistty is more reliable.

Telegram Desktop

The computer app has a straightforward Save video as option and handles files over 2 GB well. Good for lectures and movies, if you have a computer.

Fixing common problems

“Video not found” or “Invalid link”

You pasted a channel link instead of a post link, the post was deleted, or the channel went private. Copy the link again by tapping and holding the specific video message. More fixes in “Video Not Found” or “Invalid Link” Error.

The file is huge

Telegram allows uploads up to 2 GB, and some channels post full films. Check the size before you tap Download on mobile data. If you are on MTN, Airtel or Glo, a 1.5 GB movie could cost more than the price of a cinema ticket in data. Use Wi-Fi or a night bundle. For how quality affects size, see 720p vs 1080p vs 4K.

No sound, or it will not play

Telegram keeps the uploader’s original file, so you sometimes get MKV files or unusual audio codecs that the default player cannot handle. Install VLC or MX Player and the file will usually play. See Downloaded Video Won’t Play? and Why Downloaded Videos Have No Sound.

The download stops partway

Large files on a weak network drop out. Keep the screen on, or switch to Wi-Fi. Chrome on Android can resume a paused download from the notification; tap Resume. On iPhone, Safari pauses downloads when you lock the phone for a long time; open the download list and tap the file to continue. If it keeps failing, pick a smaller file or wait for a stronger signal, because a half-downloaded video will not play properly.

The channel went private

Channel owners can remove the public username at any time. When that happens, every old t.me/channelname link stops working in the browser and in Fistty. Nothing is wrong with your phone; the content is simply no longer public.

A word on copyright

Telegram channels are full of content the channel owner did not create, including movies, series and music. Downloading a video a creator posted publicly, for your own offline viewing, is generally fine. Downloading pirated films is not, and re-posting anyone’s video as your own can break platform rules and copyright law. Fistty does not host or store videos; it fetches a public file on your request. Rights holders can use the DMCA page. In 2026, more channels are using Telegram’s restrict-saving feature for exactly this reason, so expect some public channels to become private over time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download a Telegram video without the app?

Yes, if the video is in a public channel or group. Copy the t.me post link, paste it into Fistty's Telegram downloader and tap Download. No app, account or login is needed.

How do I get the link to a Telegram video?

In the app, tap and hold the video message and choose Copy Link or Copy Post Link. Without the app, open t.me/channelname in a browser, tap Preview channel and tap the post's timestamp.

Can I download videos from a private Telegram group?

Not with an online downloader. Private groups and chats have links containing /c/ or an invite code, and there is no public page to fetch. Use Telegram Web while logged in as yourself instead.

Why can't I save a video inside the Telegram app?

The channel owner turned on Restrict saving content, which hides the save option. If the channel is public, you can still copy the post link and download it through Fistty.

Where does the Telegram video save on my phone?

Through Fistty, it goes to the Downloads folder on Android (visible in Gallery) or to the Files app under Downloads on iPhone. Tap Share and Save Video on iPhone to add it to Photos.

Is downloading Telegram videos legal?

Saving a publicly posted video for personal offline viewing is generally fine. Downloading pirated films or re-uploading someone's video as your own may break copyright law and platform rules.
